First up it was the slightly unappetising Revivor Gene. I had already seen them at Rock The Park in Pontypridd so I knew what to expect which was unfortunately run of the mill stadium indie rock. They weren't on too long thankfully , having proved that my judgement of them at Pontypridd was true.

Euros (click on me for larger version)Gorky`s took to the stage after the intro by the legendary John Peel. As it was an acoustic set they all sat down however this coupled together with the low stage meant that only the first few rows could see them and everyone further back must have been able to only see the bands head and shoulders' at best. It was a set that came heavily from the new lp The Blue Trees + some brand new tracks. I only recognised a couple of tunes the first of which a B-side to Poodle Rockin'. It didn't matter that you didn't know the tracks as it was a fantastic set. The last of which was a great song in the style of Heart Of Kentucky. If they had done a "greatest hits" set then it might have pleased a lot of the crowd which it has to be said probably only came cause it was on Radio 1 and didn't have much interest in the bands judging by the constant talking though the whole of Gorky's set. (this is something that really annoys me, you don't come to gigs to listen to rabbiting you come to listen to the music - sigh).

Euros & Rhodri (click on me for larger version)After Gorky's it was Mely's turn, the last time I saw them everyone was sat down. I was itching to get up and dance to them but I would have been the only one! This time there was no fear of that as everyone was stood up. I can't begin to describe how good Melys were tonight (they were the best band I saw all weekend by far), they seemed to relish the fact of being live on radio even though they admitted they were nervous at the start. The crowd warmed to them fast and a lot of dancing was to be had, and much pounding or a flood warning sign and a beer barrel by Melys them selves. Their new single sounded really great and has a similar feel to Disgo Pig which was the last song they played and also the highlight of the set. This brought a close to an early finish for gigs at CIB and day 1 of my Cardiff Sound City.
