I don't know how to write a fanzine.
I don't even know how to review a gig.
I have never done either before, but I feel I can't put it off any longer. Every time I go to a Gorky's gig I toy with the idea and convince myself I have too much else to do and that I wouldn't have the time.
But now I do. I'm on holiday.
Who knows, my two fingered typing may even improve.

I want this fanzine to be the definitive GORKY'S ZYGOTIC MYNCI fanzine, revealing things that cannot be found in the music press or in your local rag if you don't happen to come from south Wales. In an attempt to do this I hatched upon the idea of finding Euros' home address (Childs being a fairly uncommon surname) and sending him a questionnaire. This involved taking on the role of psycho fan extraordinaire and going down to Bristol central library and rifling through the phone directory for Haverford West and Pembrokeshire. Euros did tell me where they come from, two times I'm ashamed to say, but I promptly forgot it, because I couldn't pronounce it instantly, which is quite crap really considering how much I like them.
After this had failed, and many phonecards down the line and lots of calls going urn, urn is Euros in? Who? ur, sorry, wrong number and putting the phone down, usually shaking slightly, I thought Ah ha- the Internet, the information superhighway. That will tell me.
But alas. It was not to be.
I'm not one hundred percent certain that the information isn't out there.
It probably is.
I am just too much of a cripple to find it. This may be the cause of my not being able to open three out of the four potentially helpful sites on Gorky's that I managed to locate, or that our computer is not very good. Obviously, it's the former.
I'm crap and don't know how you're meant to do any of it and had to get my 13 year old brother to show me how to log on or connect or whatever it is called, and find those four places in the first place. I have sent out many many copies of a questionnaire to GZM around the country but all to no avail. However I am seeing them in September so hopefully I will be able to physically give one to a member, so fingers crossed, issue two should be more revealing.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you; to 54, to Luigia at Pinnacle for getting a questionnaire to Melys, to Paul and Andie for completing it, and for the info and photos,. Owain at Ankst for the Rumours and Curses sampler, and my parents for all the random bits of photocopying done on the sly.
So....., basically, what am I trying to say? I hope this surpasses all of your expectations and proves to be value for money. I did have quite a lot of other stuff that I wanted to put in, but I have been forced to leave it until the next issue due to the cost of photocopying.

Well, I hope this finds you all (yes, all, because this is going to have such a wide ground base) in good health. I could toast you and say lechyd da, but that would be stupid because:
a) I don't have a drink in front of me,
b) I can't see you so therefore have no idea of who you are so I might not even like you, and
c) I don't speak Welsh so I'd sound poncy. Plus it might quite possibly look very lame indeed and like I was trying to do a very tenuous link to Gorky's themselves (which obviously I would be), and unfair when they sing about such a lot more. I could say it anyway- but don't worry. I wont.
Kerouac, Burroughs, Ginsberg- bloody Beat Generation, stream of consciousness, dear me they have a lot to answer for.

And the reason why all of this is only on one side of the paper in a very unprofessional manner is that I am going to have to use the photocopier at Spa up the road to make copies of this and you can't feed the paper back into it because they wont let you.

One site on the Internet has been really quite helpful. It is a home page run by some kid in Brazil who calls himself manicmynci and he has a lot of the lyrics to Gorky's songs, including translations of a lot of the Welsh ones which is really interesting. He has also worked out a lot of tab for those of you musically gifted.
I nicked some of the pictures in this fanzine from him.

This fanzine is dedicated to Taid because he never had a chance to hear Gorky's.

HAVE A NICE DAY
